Offer Versus Serve (OVS) us a provision in the School Breakfast Program, the National School Lunch Program and the Child and Adult Care Food Program that allows individuals to decline certain Foods that are offered. The goals of Offer Versus Serve are to reduce food waste and permit participants to take foods they will eat. Offer Versus Serve is optional at all grade levels for breakfast and required for senior high school at lunch in schools. The purpose of this training is to help menu planners as well as the adult day center and school nutrition personnel to properly implement this method of service.
