"The SPARK Virtual Learning course is specifically designed for early career Special Education (SPED) teachers with five years or less of experience. This comprehensive course provides foundational knowledge and practical guidance in key areas of special education, including:

Compliance

Developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

Co-teaching Models

Classroom Behavior Management

Crisis Management

Built from existing modules available through OSDE Connect, this course equips educators with essential tools and strategies to navigate their roles effectively. Participants will also have access to:

Supplemental resources within the course

Monthly Live SPARK Communities of Practice sessions, including registration and access to session recordings

Importantly, the course is designed to be completed alongside the 5-Day SPARK Conference held each summer, though participation in the conference is not required to benefit from the course. Educators are welcome to access the virtual course and join live community sessions independently.

About the SPARK Conference

SPARK stands for Special Education Professional Advancement of Refinement & Knowledge. The SPARK Conference is hosted annually by the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) Special Education Services Office in collaboration with the State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) and other OSDE offices.

This five-day event is tailored to support early-career special education professionals:

Days 1–2: Virtual learning that includes SPARK course modules, live sessions, and expert guest speakers.

Days 3–5: In-person, hands-on training and collaborative learning opportunities.

The conference is designed to empower educators with practical knowledge, networking opportunities, and ongoing professional support—ensuring they are better prepared for success throughout the school year."
