In this course, participants will build knowledge and understanding of:

• The difference between social and academic language
• Tier 1, 2, and 3 words
• Cognates and false cognates
• Distinguishing words/phrases to target
• Recognizing required language features
• Strategies for pre-teaching academic vocabulary and language features, and
• Activities for reinforcing and methods for assessing academic vocabulary and language features
